Tubas

Section Leaders

Matan Marder Friedgood

Matan Marder Friedgood is a junior studying Philosophy, Politics and Law, and is in his third year with the band. He is from New York City, came to USC largely because of the weather, and is happy to have found the TMB as a community where fun and music-making intersect. He not only serves as one of the Tuba section leaders but is also responsible for Electric Bass at Basketball games.

Matan is a lifelong musician, with piano, voice, bass, and cello in his repertoire in addition to tuba. In his free time he enjoys rooting for New York sports teams (Mets, Giants, Knicks), and outside of band is a leader at USC Hillel and co-music director of Reverse Osmosis A Capella. His favorite memory with the TMB is having the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to open our satellite campus in April 2023.

Travis Jackson

Travis Jackson will be a sophomore in school and a second year in the band this upcoming fall season. Coming from San Dimas, California, he is studying Intelligence & Cyber Operations with a minor in Artificial Intelligence Applications. Believe it or not, half the reason he came to USC was to join the TMB (the other half being for academics). After an inspiring 7th grade field trip to USC and years of high school marching band experience, joining the TMB was an easy choice for him.

Fun Fact: Two of his previous band directors were also a part of the TMB during their time at USC, and has them to thank for inspiring him to join this organization. Outside of school, he is most likely playing video games or sleeping. So far, his favorite memories with the TMB involve the many section bonding moments that took place on and off the field.
