Mission Statement

The mission of the Trojan Marching Band (TMB) is to provide the University of Southern California with the finest marching band program in the country through its contribution to and support of university events. The TMB is one of the university’s foremost ambassadors to the community through off-campus performances and appearances in the media. The program provides its members with the opportunity to perform music and to develop their individual artistic expression through participation at athletic contests – home and away – and various university functions, concerts and ceremonies throughout the school year. It is also the function of “The Spirit of Troy” to be the conservators of the traditions of USC. The TMB reports to the Vice President for Student Life.

Of primary concern is the experience every member has throughout their career at USC, as the program affords everyone the opportunity to grow in the areas of musicianship and leadership. Various trips, either in support of USC athletic teams or on behalf of university outreach, allow band members to experience a wide variety of cultural and artistic aspects of our city and nation. Overseas cultural tours taken by the TMB every other summer are in conjunction with major international events which provide the students the opportunity to further broaden their base of cultural knowledge.

The TMB provides ceremonial music at various university functions such as the Academic Honors Convocation, New Student Convocation and Commencement.  The TMB also provides entertainment at all home football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, and volleyball home games, as well as supporting as many other athletic events as scheduling and personnel allow.
