Jackie Gibson

Jackie Gibson is a junior at USC studying music industry with a minor in entrepreneurship. This is her third year in the Trojan Maching Band, and she is also the recruitment manager for the band!

Growing up in Austin, Texas where the band scene was extremely competitive, Jackie knew she always wanted to be in band in college, and when she found out all of the insanely cool things that this band gets to do (i.e. travel, play for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, play ON a yacht off the coast of Catalina Island, appear in tv shows/movies, play at Disneyland, perform with Olivia Rodrigo, etc.), she was hooked on the TMB before she even stepped foot on campus. Her favorite memory while in the band was the very first time she marched pregame when the 50,000+ person crowd all yelled “BEAT! THE SPARTANS!” piercingly loud at the beginning of Conquest. It made her feel like this was the community where she was meant to be. Jackie chose to come to USC because of its extreme versatility in all areas of academics and extracurricular activities as well as the infinite opportunities that the city of LA has to offer.

During her time at USC, Jackie has interned at Warner Records, NBCUniversal, and Warner Chappell Music doing various work with both music and film. She has also participated in the University Chorus, USC Mariachi Band, Los Angeles Lakers Band, USC American Marketing Association, 840 West (a student-run record label), and Annenberg TV Network. In 2022, she marched lead mellophone at Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, where she performed shows across the country for an entire summer. Jackie also serves as a Thornton School of Music Student Ambassador, and in her free time, you can probably find her zooming around campus on her rollerblades jammin’ out to Taylor Swift.

Fun fact: Jackie may or may not have won $500 from a slot machine in Las Vegas during the 2022 Pac-12 football championship trip…

Heyward Bradford

Hi, my name is Heyward Bradford and I am from Costa Mesa, California. This is my third year in the Trojan Marching Band and I am currently a junior at USC studying Communication with a
minor in Jazz Studies.

I have been involved in band since the 4th grade, so joining the band at USC was an obvious choice. My first glimpse of the Trojan Marching Band was in 2017, when I attended USC high school band day with my school. I was blown away, and ever since, I knew I wanted to continue band in college. The TMB was a huge reason that I chose to attend USC, along with Annenberg’s status as one of the top schools for Communication in the country.

Some of my favorite memories in the TMB have been performing at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Phil, playing in the 4th of July parade at Catalina, and taking an overnight trip to San Diego to play for the annual Crew Classic. I have also enjoyed trips to the Bay Area, Chicago and Notre Dame, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, played for bowl games in Dallas and San Diego, and traveled to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Championship game as well as the Men’s and Women’s Pac-12 Basketball Tournaments. These trips are memorable because I am surrounded by many of the close friends I have met through the band.

Fun fact: the first instrument I played was the baritone. It was too heavy so I switched to trumpet a year later.
