Chris Norton

Chris Norton serves as a field instructor for the Trojan Marching Band. Chris has been a member of the TMB since 2004. He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering and Master of Building Science from USC’s School of Architecture, completing his thesis research in computer aided parametric design of acoustic ceiling structures. During his time as an undergraduate, Chris served as Section Leader of the trombone section and this is twelfth season working with the section since his undergraduate years. His other past experience includes five seasons on baritone with Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps and writing drill for several high schools in the Los Angeles area.

In addition to working with the trombones and tenor saxophones, Chris helps design the band’s halftime shows, including writing drill (particularly for the band’s “picture” shows), develops leadership training programs, and plays in the Los Angeles Laker Band. Outside of the TMB, Chris is a licensed civil engineer and senior project manager at Simpson, Gumpertz, & Heger, specializing in historic and high-performance building facades, having worked on many of the new buildings at USC. Chris is also a frequent guest lecturer and critic for undergraduate building science studios at USC, and currently serves on the leadership board for the USC Alumni Real Estate Network.
