This Spring, USC’s Bovard Auditorium will once again host members of the Trojan Marching Band for the Spirit of Troy’s Spring Concert on April 15th, 2018. Each year, Trojan bandsmen are offered the opportunity to channel their musical talents off the field and onto the stage with the Concert Band, directed by the one and only Dr. Arthur C. Bartner. In practices held once a week, students are guided by Dr. Bartner through often difficult pieces, challenging their musical abilities and improving their skills under his talents and experience offered from his past 48 years with the Spirit of Troy. Over the course of the semester, students work to reach their highest potentials in preparation for the performance, and each spring, their hard work and dedication pay off in one of our fan favorite events of the year!
Following the success of the band’s “Hamilton” musical-themed half time show during the football game against the Arizona Wildcats on November 4th, the band will once again revisit the stage of Bovard Auditorium for this year’s “Broadway”-themed concert. Our stage will include pieces in the first half from beloved musicals such as “Wicked”, “West Side Story”, and “Porgy and Bess”, with the second half dedicated to the American pop musical sensation “Hamilton”, including some more complex arrangements of the hit pieces from our fall performance. After last year’s “A Night at the Opera”, the “Broadway” concert will be sure to please fans of live musical performance once again.
For each Spring Concert, the Spirit of Troy calls upon some of our favorite artists to collaborate with the band for the performance. This year, our organization will be partnering with the Thornton School of Popular Music to bring back two Operatic stars to be featured in the well-received “Porgy and Bess” rendition from last year. The Trojan Marching Band has also invited singers of the more contemporary “rap” and “hip hop” genres to voice the lyrics of the upbeat and energetic “Hamilton” characters. And, as always, the conclusion of the concert will feature a finale with other members of the Trojan Marching Band to perform our favorite rock charts and school songs to end the event with our famous “Conquest” horn calls.
The annual Spring Concert is one of the largest fundraising events of the year for the Spirit of Troy, and we would like to invite you all of our friends and fans to come share in the excitement of the experience. All proceeds from the concert go directly to the organization, and tickets can be purchased either by phone at our office number, (213) 740-6317, or online at a future date.
